A masterclass in speaking plainly
It's March 1933 in the US. Banks are failing and people are withdrawing cash. FDR has just taken office, declared a nationwide bank holiday, and pushed through some emergency fixes. This broadcast (transcript below) sought to restore confidence so deposits would return and the system would stabilise. It remains the best example of plain speech in action I have seen to date.
